Senior Production Planner

The Role

Leading production planning activities with projects and coordinating production orders across both internal requests and external orders to ensure on time delivery and effective coordination between departments. Work cross functionally with supply chain & logistics/ project managers/ Engineering leads/ Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and production supervisors to define the production schedule and ensure a high-level execution on-time delivery identifying areas to escalate improvements across functions where required.

 

Operate cross functionally, support the flow of operations, and clearly identify requirements and communicate schedules and potential risks.

 

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Load demand & Flow down

  • Ensure job orders and purchase requisitions as required to fulfil customer orders
  • Coordinate with project managers to scope and plan production activities and where necessary escalate capacity demand clashes for resolution
  • Ensure that Bill of Material (BOM) structure is in place for each build and that demand and works orders are generated from Kitting through to final assembly and test
  • Ensure kitting material requirements are tracked and liaise with Procurement to ensure external/ internal supply meets project timelines

Capacity Sizing

  • Work with Departments and Production Planners to determine our capacity-sizing and generate a Rough-Cut capacity sizing model
  • Implement Lean manufacturing tools and drive cultural change towards a pull production system. Create Value Stream Maps and support production flow improvement activities

Project Responsibilities

  • Support a project or multiple projects through effective production planning and forecasting to allow for projects to make informed decision on their own timescales and objectives
  • Coordinate with projects to report on Clean to Build (CTB) status
  • Scheduling and coordinating production orders across both internal requests and external customer orders within the Advanced Manufacturing & Assembly Areas
  • Act as link between Projects and Manufacturing
  • Drive project planning activities from conceptual implementation through to delivery
  • Be the project representative when liaising with logistics on kitting schedules and timelines. Control request for kitting to logistics, manage stock for build areas (for internal parts/commercial orders/ COTS/ consumables)
  • Ensure correct process and complete documentation for traceability and distribution of finished assemblies to stock/ dispatch
  • Collaborate with inspection team and procurement to assess priority of items through inspection
  • Maintain a customer focused view and liaise directly with customers

KPI Reporting

  • Ensure the department is executing on time to meet delivery dates, CTB, Kitting availability, Process readiness
  • Develop and maintain reports on productivity, efficiency and on time delivery within the department and initiate projects to resolve inefficiencies either within or feeding into the department
  • Stand-in deputy for Production Planning Manager, able to report to leadership team on department KPI’s and project production performance

Business Improvements

  • Working with the Manufacturing leadership team to co-ordinate efficient production orders and continuously seeking improvements
  • They will also develop and Implement processes to help drive the business through the coming growth periods, such as Capacity and Rough-Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP), identify propose and put in place improvement opportunities across all manufacturing operations
  • Coaching and development for Production Planners, introducing industry methods for planning

 

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience in production environment.
  • Production planning experience
  • Understanding of production processes
  • Demonstrated previous experience working collaboratively

Desirable

  • Previous use of production control/ manufacturing resource planning software (ideally RedAnt)
  • Purchasing experience
  • Manufacturing/ Mechanical Engineering experience
  • Project management experience

 

Qualifications

Desirable

  • A degree/HND level qualification or equivalent in an engineering discipline is desirable but not required, so long as the applicant can demonstrate appropriate previous experience and attributes for the role

Salary: £25,000 to £30,000

Contract: Permanent

Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (0700hrs to 1615hrs each day)

Location: This role is based at our Culham site
